Leipzig's Spinnerei

The Guardian, in its top 20 list of things to do in Germany, puts Leipzig’s Spinnerei at number 1. A former cotton mill founded in 1884, this fab industrial site has been transformed into a bevy of artist studios. Home to an exciting east German art scene, the site hosts more than 100 artists today and studios and galleries on display include goldsmiths, architects, jewelers, sculptors, painters, photographers and screen printers. The Spinnerei also has a couple of cafes and restaurants worthy of a visit. The highlight for mine however would have to be the utterly eccentric “bimbo town” well and truly worth a look, especially if you can snag a ticket to one of their evening soirees.  The best time to visit the Spinnerei is during the open weekends (4 times a year) when all studios are on display or for a night at bimbo town (once per month).
