The Cold Duck

A couple of weeks ago, we bought this beautiful jug at a flea market in Germany. It's one of my favourite pieces so far, we got talking to the seller and he told us how this type of jug is known in German as 'die Kalte Ente' (the cold duck!), he said it's from around the early 1900's and was used for serving lemonade in. There would have been a glass cylinder in the middle of the jug used for storing ice, to keep the drinks cool (before refrigeration). The one in this jug is missing but I love the carved glass and the silver handle and spout. See full listing here.
